Admissions Requirements

College description: College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences . Virginia Tech now offers a Distance Learning Program in which candidates earn a Masters of Arts in Education. The program is designed for practicing and provisionally licensed teachers of Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physics grades 6-12. Using innovative technology to support a distance learning format, the program offers online coursework which includes educational foundations, science teaching pedagogy, special education, instructional technology, content area reading, and Integrated Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education (STEM).

Bachelor’s degree with A 3.00 GPA for regular admission status or 2.75 GPA for provisional status is required

Official GRE is not required for Science Education Online

Two letters of recommendation are required for Science Education Online

Write a brief essay that details their philosophy of science teaching and describe their expectations of participation in a science education master’s program.

International students might be required to submit TOEFL scores, immigration documents, and other additional materials with their application.

The university require a minimum TOEFL score of 90 or IELTS score of 6.5 for admission.

There is a discount for in-state K-12 teachers; use this application form in order to receive the reduced costs. Generally, distance learners may qualify for federal loans if they take 5 or more credit hours per semester.

Degree-seeking students must include a $75 fee with their application, though check to see if applicant qualify for a waiver or reduced fee.
