Best Universities for Master’s certificate program in African-American/Black Studies

Certificate requirements include completion of AAS 500 African American Intellectual Tradition and two other courses in the Humanities or Social Sciences:.

___Three Graduate Courses (include department, course number, title, date taken, and grade). Participation in a minimum of five extracurricular activities sponsored by the Callie House Research Center for the Study of Global Black Cultures and Politics.

Program Learning Outcomes for the Certificate in African and African American Studies. Demonstrate a sophisticated understanding and use of major themes and concerns represented in African and African American Studies. DAAS accepts rolling admissions to the certificate program. A letter of application explaining their interest in the Certificate Program and their background in African American and Diasporic Studies. A total of fifteen credit hours is required for earning the Graduate Certificate, including two required DAAS courses

This program will offer the student opportunities for understanding, practice, and collaboration that will enhance intellectual and creative participation in world citizenry. The Certificate is of value to students wishing to demonstrate their knowledge of African American Studies either to potential employers or graduate schools. The cohesiveness of the certificate program will be selected from concentration areas and other core courses in the curriculum of the Department. No than two of the other courses may be taken at the 100 or 200 level.

Current KU students must officially certificate program before the fourth and final course requirement is completed. A student must be in good standing with their current graduate degree program in order to participate in the certificate program.
